Josh Anon

Josh Anon is an award-winning nature photographer who has shot professionally for over fifteen years and is the author of numerous books, including Photoshop CS 5 for Nature Photographers and Aperture 3: Portable Genius. His interest in photography started when he received his first Kodak 110 camera at the ripe old age of 4. Camera in hand, he received a BS in computer science from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

After graduating, Josh started working at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, California. There, he has worked on The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Toy Story 3, and more. Currently, he is a Camera and Staging Artist (cinematographer), and his past positions have included rendering optimization, Linux and Mac software development, and crowds simulation.

He has traveled the globe searching for the next great picture, be it 100 feet deep on the Great Barrier reef, on a cold and windy beach in the south Atlantic, or in the Arctic Circle.  His images, represented by the prestigious Jaynes Gallery, have appeared in a variety of galleries, calenders, and other publications, including the San Diego Natural History Museum, Nature’s Best, Photo Media, The Kiteboarder, and more. Josh is the co-author of Aperture 3: Portable Genius (Wiley, Anon and Anon, 2011), Photoshop CS 5 for Nature Photographers (Sybex, Anon and Anon, 2010), Photoshop CS4 for Nature Photographers (Anon and Anon, Sybex 2008), and Aperture Exposed (Anon and Anon, Sybex 2006).

Josh also writes software for Lightbox Software, including Lightbox, one of the first professional-quality image management programs for Mac OS X. More recently he has focused on iPhone development, developing an animation tool called FlipBook.

With his computer science and artistic background, Josh has a unique perspective on the digital world and frequently consults and lectures about digital imaging, including at the NECCC (New England Camera Club Council) annual meeting and BetterPhoto summit. He's also a co-founder of a new, online e-publishing site/knowledge base for photography called DSLRU.

When not shooting, making cartoons, or coding, Josh can be found kiteboarding.
