Instructor Testimonials

DPA Instructor Jen Kolb leads a Comp. in the Field class through Atlanta

Jen

I really enjoyed the class and feel that I am more confident now. So step one has been achieved. I have attached some photos, the 3 I selected but 2 with some of the other photographers in the image.

I am interested in a more classes to work on taking pictures of moving objects, given my goal of taking pictures on safari in Africa in January. What class would you suggest?

I bought the class through Living Social. It was a great deal.

Intermediate Student

Thanks for a great class on Saturday.  I really enjoyed the class and was able to get a lot out of it.  It really helped me in that it introduced me to couple of key topics and then I was able to go home and read more about it in my camera’s manual, as well as your site.  I also enjoyed the overview of Photoshop and hope to someday take that class.  I’m going to practice for a few months and hope that I will then be able to think about another class.
Thanks Milton

I just want to say "Thanks" for a great time and for being fantastic students. I hope you walked away with many tricks and photo tips that you will incorporate into your workflow and photography sessions. Your enthusiasm to learn made it easy for me to share my knowledge. Starting no later than tomorrow, use or practice some of what you were shown so it becomes ingrained. Please continue to keep in touch and let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Teacher-Student Dialogue

Hi Jeanne,

Good question.  I'm assuming you want head and shoulders shots.  I'd use a neutral background - the less busy the better.  You will have to decide if they are casual attired or formal.  Grey suite with white shirt for men and light colored blouse for women.  Less formal would be light colored sport shirt for the men and same for the women.  The less busy the clothing along with fairly neutral background (make sure tone of clothing and background have enough tonal separation so they don't blend in). Cream colored wall or light pastel without patterns is best - make sure the wall tone is lighter or much darker than clothing if possible.
