DPA Beginner Photo Tip:
Great Photos of Water Fowl
by Russ Burden, Denver DPA Instructor
If you're looking to photograph water fowl or simply absorb the view, the 127 acre Belmar Park in Lakewood, Colorado is the place to go, and only minutes from downtown Denver.
Consisting of two lakes, the main one Kountze, each offers its own rewards for the curious nature photographer. Turtles, barn swallows, white pelicans, and ducks are frequent visitors. Also commonly found are egrets, night herons, great blue herons, and avocets. Many of these species are seasonal, but if you head there in the spring, you'll surely be treated to them all. Summer offers the added rewarded of photographing many young animals. To get a photo like this one, zoom into a busy area on the water and wait for the bird to move into your frame, stay still and click the shutter.

DPA Intermediate Photo Tip:
Photographing inside Aquariums
by Chuck Place, Los Angeles DPA Instructor
These jellyfish at the Monterey Bay Aquarium were almost hypnotic as their bodies pulsed through the water. The room was completely dark with daylight coming from above the tank.
Due to the low light levels, I had to shoot with a tripod, which can be a real problem with people wandering through a dark room. Setting up at the far side of the room, I used a zoom lens to frame the sea creatures and visitors, while staying out of everyone's way. Etiquette: Make sure that your local aquarium permits tripods before you setup the shot.

DPA Advanced Photo Tip:
Set up an Outdoor Photo Shoot
by Joel Silverman, Atlanta DPA Instructor
Location: Chestatee River in the north Georgia Mountains
Tip: To photography a canoe in a river, you need to rig the canoe so that it won't move. I set a cable across the river and tied the canoe to the cable. Then my subjects could paddle all they wanted without going anywhere. I was able to make the shot at my leisure!
Etiquette: Make sure there aren't any other rafts or canoes on the river before setting up a cable.
