Charleston Photo Expedition - April 7-10, 2011
with Photographers Bill Lea, Bart Baldwin & David Hartfield
Join these 3 photography leaders as they take you on exciting Photo-Expeditions in and around historic Charleston, South Carolina. Springtime in the Old South comes early and is filled with wonderful opportunities to photograph historic downtown, architecture, gardens, wildflowers, birds, alligators, black water cypress swamp, butterflies, and sprawling live oak trees.

The expedition leaders will provide participants with instructional tips and techniques in the classroom, as well as in the field. Lab time and assistance will be provided for post processing. Image critique and Q&A time will be provided.

During lab time, the expedition leaders will assist participants in gaining a better understanding of core photographic principals and techniques for capturing artistic images. Participants will also be given the opportunity to improve their post processing skills though hands-on assistance with the expedition leaders, including advanced post-processing skills that photographers need to know. Adobe Light Room and Photoshop will be used. We encourage everyone who does not own these software packages to download trial versions a couple of days before the workshop.

For additional details please contact David Hartfield (David.Hartfield@TheHartfieldGroup.com) at 803.233.7975, or visit http://davidhartfield.net/events.
We are giving a $50 discount on this workshop to all Digital Photo Academy customers. Just use the "DPA" discount code. I'm looking forward to seeing you in Charleston!

Russ Burden's Photo Tours - 2009 Schedule

The holidays are over and you're still salivating over that new piece of photo gear that Santa brought. What better way to give it a workout than to bring it on one of my photo tours to capture magnificent images. Whether it's a new lens, camera, tripod, flash, or accessory, let me help you put it through its paces. I guarantee that if you're with me, it will get a workout.
My tours are all about the photography. If it's fine dining you're after, bring 5 star granola bars. If it's all about you being concerned with how well you're dressed, wash your fleece. If it's about catching up on sleep, nap during mid day. If it's about capturing a great image, book a tour with me. If you're like me and you know it's all about the light, call me for a tour. If it's about being brought to the best possible locations at the best times of the year, let me send you a registration packet. If you want to learn more about our craft, I can teach you. If you want to have a great time filled with laughs while accomplishing all the above, come on one of my tours. If you know someone who has been on a tour with me, ask them just how accurate the above is. Simply put, if the photography is the goal, then come on one of my tours. There's nothing like being on a 7 or 10 day photo tour and totally forgetting what day of the week it is or what the date is due to the fact you're completely enveloped in the photography.
In that I designate 2009 to be the year of the Photo Tour, I encourage you to join me and experience what it feels like to lose yourself in a week of photographic bliss.
*******Food for thought if you're worried about the economy. I often hear photographers say they can't afford a tour. I offer you this to contemplate. For you to intimately learn the locations to where I go, it would take at least five to ten trips on your own. For the little bit extra you'll spend coming with me, I just saved you tens of thousands of dollars. I now ask you - how can you afford not to come with me?*******
Hope to have you join me in 2009. Regards
Russ Burden

West Coast of South America in October 2009

Please come and join me on a spectacular trip along the West Coast of South America. I have been dreaming about this trip for more than 20 years!
Our exploration of South America’s spectacular west coast takes us from colonial Quito, Ecuador’s capital city, to Puerto Montt, Chile, with its distinct wooden architecture. In-between we stop in major ports, picturesque harbors, and uninhabited isles where Zodiac excursions offer incredible wildlife viewing opportunities. Visit superb archaeological sites in Peru and take an optional flight to view the mysterious Nazca Lines. Cruising through the Humboldt Current witness some of the world’s greatest concentrations of seabirds and prolific marine life, including dolphins, migrating whales, and beaches smothered with sea lions. In contrast, Chile’s Atacama Desert reveals a geological wonderland of lunar-like landscapes. With visits to four World Heritage Sites and to Lauca National Park, a World Biosphere Reserve, we have the rare opportunity for an in-depth look into the ancient cultures and stunning biodiversity of this fascinating coast. And you can’t get to some places any other way….

Here are some of the highlights:
Landscapes
Spectacular landscapes, from the snow-capped Andes to the Atacama Desert, from forests to rocky islands

Wildlife
Up-close birding and photography including Inca terns, pelicans, albatross, Peruvian boobies, and Humboldt penguins

Culture
Cultural visits, include World Heritage Sites of Quito, Chan Chan, Nazca Lines, and Chiloé Island

Atacama Desert
Optional two-day exploration of the Atacama Desert, including the Valley of the Moon

Lauca National Park
Full day in Lauca National Park, an Andean wonderland of volcanoes, glacier lakes, villages, and wildlife—vicuñas, guanacos, and Andean flamingos

Biggio: The Final Game New Book Release from Houston DPA Photographer Michael Hart
One of baseball's renowned photographers, Michael Hart, captures this future hall-of-famer in this commemorative keepsake, recording Craig Biggio's last game in the major leagues. Unlike many current ball players, who rarely spend their careers with a single club, Biggio spent his entire 20-year career with the Houston Astros. He is a sports treasure in Houston and a baseball great, who racked up more than 3,000 hits and was selected as a National League All-Star seven times. He played his last game in front of a record crowd at Minute Maid Park, and this visual record captures the emotion and drama of that day in unforgettable photographs.
Review
"This photo journey of Craig Biggio's last day on the diamond will elicit a few teardrops. And Michael Hart is to be commended for capturing the feelings at Minute Maid that day, and recording them for posterity."
—Larry Dierker, former major league pitcher and manager, from the foreword
