DPA Beginner Photo Tip:
Big Skies!
Photo & text by Angilee Wilkerson, Dallas Instructor
Nothing says open space quite like a landscape defined by little more than big sky and continuous ground.
In this image, stratified layers of color transition through various shades of green, yellow and blue, delineating a compositional plane and horizon.
We find a soothing calm in the rendering of earth and sky in minimal content and form, which is interrupted dramatically, however, by the comet-like trail of the cloud.

DPA Intermediate Photo Tip:
Fall Foliage, 2 of 4
Photos & text by Russ Burden, Denver DPA Instructor
It's autumn - the monochromatic green that dominated summer is giving way to nature's magic as the environment is taking on a palette of warm tones and changing colors. For the photographer who loves color, it's a glorious time.
From the grand landscape to a lonely fallen red leaf to a child romping in a pile of freshly raked leaves, there's a plethora of subject matter. Whether your passion lies in photographing nature, people, photo journalism, sports, etc., adding a background of fall color will make your images pop.

DPA Advanced Photo Tip:
A Monumental Camera - Putting the Panasonic TZ3 Through its Paces
Photos & text by Russ Burden, Denver DPA Instructor
Just because you use a point and shoot doesn't mean you can't use a polarizing filter. Compare the differences between the image shot without it and then with it. Simply place the filter in front of the lens and rotate it until the sky and colors are more saturated. It's better if you work with the camera on a tripod to do this.

In September, 1989, a local ad agency hired Michael Hart to do his first assignment for the Houston Astros Major League Baseball team.

DPA October Assignment Winner!
This image has many things going for it. I love the placement of the bee. Its corresponding shadow creates a wonderful secondary focal point. Additionally, the background is handled beautifully. The out of focus yellow and green vegetation contributes to the success of the image. The subject is placed along the rule of thirds and the pollen sack it has collected makes the image all the more interesting. Not only is it a great photograph, it fits the assigned topic perfectly.
Will the photographer of this winning image, representing the October assignment "In Your Own Backyard", please come forward...
Thanks to our DPA Denver Instructor Russ Burden, for selecting the October winner!
