Learn Macro Tecniques At Hudson Gardens
Saturday, June 30th 2012
8:00am-5:00pm
with DPA Instructor Russ Burden
Russ Burden has a special treat for all students who sign up for his Advanced Digital Photo Academy class on June 30th from 8:00 - 5:00. Russ will meet his students at Hudson Gardens and work with them to get great shots of flowers, insects, the garden grounds, and overall scenics. During this time of year, the gardens are bursting at the seams with macro subjects that will keep everyone busy making photos hour after hour. Additionally, there are many other subjects that will find us pointing our lenses in their direction. We’ll certainly focus on any and all of them. The class will be limited to 9 students keeping the instructor to student ratio low so make sure you get on board early. This one will sell out quickly.

The layout of the day will find us meeting at the main entrance to Hudson Gardens at 7:50. We’ll spend the entire morning photographing the myriads of flowers, different gardens, architectural subjects, insects, frogs, water gardens, fountains and anything else we find intriguing. The obvious allure are the flowers but Russ will also show you how to capture the overall scenics of the grounds, get great shots of the quaint cottages and bridges, help you understand shutter speed when photographing the fountains, and how to work with macro subjects such as bees, other insects, frogs and whatever else crawls or flies in front of our lenses. Be sure to bring your flash and any off camera flash attachments you have as Russ will spend a portion of the morning talking about how to use flash when photographing macro subjects. In addition, bring reflectors and diffusers as Russ will be demoing their use. Of course, don’t leave your macro lens home. If you use extension tubes or close up filters for your macro work, be sure to bring them.

Be sure to bring snacks and water as we’ll stay at the gardens for awhile to maximize our time in the field. As our appetites beckon, we’ll break for lunch discussing what we photographed. After our meal, we’ll move on to Part 2 of the day. Russ’s studio is only 15 minutes away. All the students will follow him there and convene for a Photoshop session to optimize their images and do a critique. Russ will share his Camera RAW tips and techniques he uses to bring out the best in his images. He’ll work with each student helping them do the same. He’ll also share many of his Photoshop tips to improve your RAW captures made during the morning session.

A $5.00 admission fee to the gardens is extra and each participant will be responsible for their own admission. If you are a member of Hudson Gardens, you get in free.
