A World in Monochrome

Not to in any way belittle the actual horrible act of someone being shot, but to emphasize that sometimes in the world of journalism, what we photograph happens quickly, and without opportunity to prepare, and yes sometimes happens while in the car.

January Photo Assignment: Get Bundled Up!

Snapshooters, amateur photographers, photo enthusiasts and even professionals are encouraged to submit their best images for 'Get Bundled Up!'
Send us your best photographs this winter: portraits, still life, night and action shots all qualify.
Entries should be uploaded by February 10th, 2008. And remember, the winner who is selected will be part of the 12 Assignment images that will be on display in museums, galleries and studios around the country.

Florida Wildlife: Photographic prints by Milton Heiberg
Wildlife photographer Milton Heiberg will present his work at the J.N. "Ding" Darling NWR Visitor's Center from January 1st through February 29th, 2008. This will be an encore exhibit including twenty-three framed prints of the Florida Wildlife show that was hung in the center's gallery during May and June of 2007.

There's nothing mini in Minneapolis when it comes to the Northrup King Building - all 875,000 square feet of it. A complex of ten interconnected buildings, actually, constructed in 1917, this landmark was built for the fabled seed purveyor Northrup King & Co., who for generations helped fill the Great Plains of the nation's breadbasket. The company moved out in the late 1980s, and its building has since evolved to become the heart of the heartland's art scene - a home to more than 130 artists and arts-related businesses, plus another 30 entrepreneurs and nonprofits...

Melissa Carlson is DPA's student winner for our December "Home for the Holidays" Assignment.
Her winning portrait of a child's face illuminated by holiday lights near a Christmas tree, titled Believe, portrays a child's emotions on Christmas of hope and joy. Congratulations Melissa!

The Digital Photo Academy is making television appearances around the country. Our instructors are photographic authorities in each of the communities where they teach and can often be seen on television sharing their knowledge.

New Faces at DPA
Many of you have come to know Mary Edgett as our cheerful and resourceful student liaison.
What you might not have known is that Mary is also an accomplished painter and has an exhibition coming up this Spring. She is devoting herself full time to that project but of course we will maintain contact with her so as the news of her painting comes up, we will pass it on to you including when and where the exhibitions will be taking place.
Congratulations Mary, we'll miss you!
Joining us as our new student liaison, is Amy Jackson, an accomplished portrait and lifestyle photographer with years of experience leading photo and travel treks around the world.
Amy is also an accomplished chef and all around great gal!
