Lincoln Park has just about everything, from history to culture to urban life. In 1968, Lincoln Park was the site of the Yippies' Festival of Life during the Democratic National Convention and today, the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Chicago History Museum, and the Lincoln Park Conservatory attract people of all ages. In Lincoln Park, you can wine and dine, shop, and relax with the locals. Join your Digital Photo Academy instructor in Lincoln Park to photograph daily life and step into the past of this remarkable neighborhood.
Out in the field, you will photograph historic architecture, urban culture, and beautiful nature scenes. Capture quaint residential areas, crisp gardens, and locals heading to their favorite neighborhood spots.
Lincoln Park Conservatory is a whole other breed of beauty indoors. Constructed in the 1890s, the Lincoln Park Conservatory boasts a pristine, yet tranquil, environment of gorgeous flower arrangements, tree canopies, and pools of sunlight. Notice the tiny greenery peaking out of tree bark and the way in which the sculptures accent the colors and grace of the flora.
In the Conservatory, you will photograph flora in the warmth during the winter season. This is a fantastic opportunity to shoot in macro to accentuate the tiny details of a flower's petals, experiment with depth of field to focus on your flower and blur the background into a dark abyss, and see how the use of color enhances, or detracts from, a photograph.
You also will have the unique opportunity to learn directly from a professional photographer in the field. Ask questions and develop new skills like the professionals to capture stunning images and learn techniques that you can apply in any photographic encounter.
Shoot in manual to find the proper exposure, change your depth of field to choose different focal points, and incorporate leading lines to draw your viewers' eyes in a particular direction.
We will meet outside of the Lincoln Park Conservatory located at 2391 N. Stockton Drive, Chicago, IL 60614. Please bring your DSLR or another type of digital camera that you use, a fully-charged battery, and the equipment that you can carry. You should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
