Composition in the Field: Yonge-Dundas Square
The Toronto area is full of great photo opportunities, no part more so than Yonge-Dundas Square, a focal part of the downtown Toronto community.
Famous for its bright lights and advertisements, it is a perfect place to juxtapose colorful, shiny consumerism and passers-by's reactions to it.
It is a perfect place for portraits of interesting and zany people and bright lights, but it's also a fantastic place for images of beautiful and interesting architecture, modern and gleaming and old-world, both, which your DPA instructor will teach you to capture. Leading lines and camera angles can transform a building into a gorgeous image.
The vertical lines in both the above and below images guide the viewers' eyes from the bottom of the image to the soaring top of the structure. This is just one way in which the use of leading lines can help to capture the awe-inspiring architecture of Yonge-Dundas Square!
Many exciting activities and events take place in this space -- everything from community celebrations and theatrical events to concerts and promotions. Great photo opportunites are in abundance here! Your instructor is adept at understanding tips, techniques and classic principles that turn a snapshot into a powerful image. This easy to comprehend approach to picture-taking will be the core of this photo shoot.
