DPA Instructor Joel Silverman recently selected the winner, for February's "Snapping Green" Assignment.
DPA Instructor Joel Silverman recently selected the winner, for February's "Snapping Green" Assignment.
Congratulations to Bill Brown, Intermediate student, from Philadelphia!
"Bill Brown's "Breakfast in the Field" photograph satisfies the "snapping green" assignment perfectly and is the winner of the March contest. Reminiscent of one of Claude Monet's lovely, impressionistic garden paintings, the lovely early morning scene of a field of flowers illustrates three of the points I teach in the DPA Composition class about what makes a great photograph:
(1) Perfect light makes a perfect photograph. The beautiful quality of dawn light proves why the early bird gets the worm.
(2) Shallow depth of field can really make a photograph interesting. Usually used more for portraits than landscapes, this is a great example of "breaking a rule" to stunning effect.
(3) Monochromatic fields of color, with no contrasting color, mean no distractions to break the beautiful mood of this painterly photograph.
