As someone who has invested in a camera, you want to learn everything you can about apertures, shutter speeds, ISOs, and more, to get the full benefit of such an intricate piece of equipment.

Each Composition in the Field class begins with a lecture and Q&A on these topics, but then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 25 cities the DPA encapsulates) to put what you’ve learned to the test. There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.

After you develop a greater understanding of your camera, there will be countless opportunities to apply your knowledge in any of our cities. For example, after learning about aperture, you get to use it. Whether it’s focusing on a yellow tulip and blurring the background or isolating someone’s profile against a backdrop of towering skyscrapers, you will learn not only basic mechanics of your DSLR or Point and Shoot camera, but also how to apply them to your photos.

One of our experienced instructors will guide you through each step of the process. You will have fun in the three hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.
